Hey Folks, time to catch you up for the past month or so.
Things have been massively busy. Work is very challenging right now; I'm meeting my goals and things are progressing well but it's stressful and exhausting.
I was able to get out to California about 4 weeks ago to speak at SMX West 2008. The presentation went really well and I've had a lot of great feedback. You can see the slides here. The highlight of the conference though had to be spending time catching up with my Friend Wes Funk, who was also there to speak. I was able to pay him back for years of showing me around his haunts in Utah by showing him one of my favorite San Jose hangouts The Poor House.
I was also able to drop in and catch up with my mentor Craig Sherman. That guy is a total rockstar, every time I speak with him I leave our conversation so energized and motivated to tackle any problem I have. A total Rockstar!
The other highlight of my trip was that I could spend a bunch of quality time with my family. The weather was perfect, in the 70s, so we were able to do one of my favorite things drive up the coast. We took my favorite drive through Woodside and up to Pescadero, a sleepy coastal town with just the best atmosphere and people. It's a place where I feel no one is a stranger even if you just rolled into town for the first time.
After that it was straight to the coast and all they way up to San Francisco. Mom had a great idea to go up to Coit Tower and that was so nice because the weather was perfect. Completely relaxing...
Also relaxing was the flight from and to JFK. What?? what did you say? your flight was relaxing... yes I did people because I have found my new mode of transportation: Virgin America Airlines... Amazing, truly amazing. The seats are great, the lighting actually does make a difference, and the video entertainment system is incredible. Not only can you watch DirectTV you have a TV guide and can set reminders so you don't miss your show. But the two best things are: First, the pilot is dressed professionally but casually and grabs the mic before the flight walks the asile and "presents" the flight. He/She tells you the route we are flying, and weather we are expecting, and when we expect to get there. He/She asks for any questions then says "well I'm going to head up to the cockpit so we can get going". It's just kind of nice to have that connection. The second is how food/drink service happen. When you get up to altitude they come down the aisle once for drinks and then thats the last time, at anytime during the flight you want a drink or eats (although eats are not free) you just ordering by tapping in your order to your tv screen and two seconds later a attendant shows up with your order. Brilliant!! no more dodging the cart trying to walk around or waiting for a drink.
The other thing is the in flight safety video is great. Really watch it, they did a great job actually making something you'll watch and it's right on brand. Overall they are very true to the Virgin Brand. From now on it's the only airline I'll fly if I'm going where they are operating.
Ok so that was a few weeks ago. I'll follow up with another post in the next day or so that highlights a great concert I saw, another trip to the met, dinner at the spice market, and another trip to California. Then were back up to date.
